He (or She) Who Hesitates Is Lost? Not Necessarily!

March 6, 2010 · Filed Under Fashion & Beauty, Shopping · Comment

Leather Jackets Ever been shopping and put off buying something you’ve seen – only to return a week, a day or an hour later and find it gone? We’ve all been there, and ‘dash’ doesn’t begin to cover it. It’s even worse when the item was on sale. You spend the next however long lamenting the lost bargain, and then our 20/20 hindsight kicks in: "I should have asked them to put it aside". Shopping online doesn’t protect us from such distress, either. The ‘in stock’ counter taunts us as it drops from ‘1′ to ‘0′ when we refresh – and no amount of yelling at the screen will bring it back. Or so we’ve heard.

Luckily, you can get around this, should it ever happen to you. If you’re shopping for leather jackets online, and find that what you want is no longer available, you can email us, and hand over your vital measurements. We’ll not only check that there’s really, truly no more in stock, we’ll check what we do have to make sure there’s nothing else that will suit your measurements.

Leather Jackets: a Coat for all Seasons

February 18, 2010 · Filed Under Fashion & Beauty, Shopping · Comment

Leather Jackets It’s a fact – leather jackets are making a comeback! Some might say that the classic leather jacket never really went out of style, but face it, when you’ve seen a guy wearing a men’s leather jacket that is a little past its use-by date (think short, black, and diagonal zippers), it can look not-quite-trendy. In their many forms, leather jackets can be worn almost anywhere and with almost anything. Even the old aviator-style jacket can still look cool, when teamed with the right outfit and accessories.

Some great bargain buys can be picked up in clearance sales. Cheap leather jackets are now being sported by the younger generation due to their versatility and low cost. They can be worn with anything, and their affordability makes them attractive to the younger crowd. They can be seen to and from work (and even some schools), in town with pals or out with families.

Ethical & Sustainable Toys

January 30, 2010 · Filed Under Shopping · Comment

Ethical toys As an eco-friendly adult you do all you can to ensure your green credentials are up to date – recycling, energy-saving light bulbs, fairtrade coffee and chocolate etc. But how about sustainable toys for the children in your life? How ethical are the toys you give to the kids? And would an ethical toy make it onto a child’s wish list in the first place? In this article we’ll discuss ethical toys and find out what makes a toy ‘green’.

The ethical toy debate

The toy industry, which is said to worth around £8 billion, has long been criticised for its lack of environmental awareness. However, that hasn’t stopped adults from splashing the cash. By the time the average British child reaches the age of 16, they will have owned around £11,000 worth of toys. It’s impossible for all those toys to have been made from sustainable materials or be ethically sound, so what’s being done to improve the situation?

The answer has, until recently, been very little. The mass market for cut-price toys lends itself to huge industrialisation leading to outsourcing and then questionable labour rights for the workforce who produce the products. Then there’s the materials used in manufacture.

Ethical And Eco-Friendly Pet Products

December 17, 2009 · Filed Under Pets, Shopping · Comment

Ethical Pet Products There are 8 million dogs and 8 million cats in homes around the UK. That’s a lot of animals and it goes to show that we’re a nation of pet lovers. We’re also a nation that’s becoming more aware of social responsibilities including buying goods and products that are ethical and eco-friendly. With our passion for pets and our awareness of the environmental impact we’re having on the planet, it’s little wonder that ethical pet products are in such demand.

How to be an ethical pet owner

As a pet owner you naturally want to keep your cat or dog in the best of health. Just as humans benefit from natural materials and ingredients, so do animals. When buying pet supplies, products and gifts, consider what they’re made from, how they’ve been manufactured and the impact that has on the planet. You’ll be doing your pet and the environment a big favour.

Consider these factors to determine whether your pet products are ‘green’:

Ethical Christmas Gifts For Men

November 21, 2009 · Filed Under Shopping · Comment

Ethical Christmas Gifts Christmas is a time when giving gives you more pleasure than receiving, especially when you’ve bought a loved one a gift you know they’ll love. The warm glow you get from the experience can be even better when you give ethical Christmas gifts.

If you’re looking for the perfect present for the man in your life, there are websites where you can buy ethical gifts that are affordable and the money you pay will go towards helping communities around the world.

Why buy fair trade and ethical Christmas presents

Goods that are marked ‘fair trade’ are produced by people and communities who are paid a higher price than if they were selling to existing markets. The extra money is usually invested in social projects to improve housing, education and health or to just improve wages.

Ethical goods are those which are produced in conditions that are safe and legal for the workers. Although things are improving, even today workers in poorer countries are exposed to unsafe working conditions with many children forced to work when they are under the legal age.

Buying Organic Baby Clothes Online

November 5, 2009 · Filed Under Environment, Family, Shopping · Comment

Organic baby clothes It’s not just adults who can be environmentally friendly with their clothing, ‘green’ baby clothes are readily available and there are some great reasons to go organic with your infant’s clothing. Organic baby clothes are more than just a fashion trend, they can help keep your baby healthy, safe and comfortable with the added knowledge that you’re reducing your environmental impact on the planet.

Choosing organic baby clothes

One of the great reasons to go organic with your infant’s clothing is down to the natural materials and fibres used in the manufacturing process. Many materials used in baby clothes contain dyes, pesticides and metals which are potentially harmful to a young child, particularly if they suffer with allergies. Not so with organic materials which can actually help to eliminate this risk. Child care experts also recommend organic clothing for children who suffer with skin conditions as the natural materials can significantly reduce irritation.

Gifts For All Occasions

Gifts I hate being stuck for gift ideas. Whether it’s for someone’s birthday or anniversary, I am always at a loss when trying to think of what to buy. A wedding is especially difficult; I stand in the home wares section and wander aimlessly, dodging staff and offers of assistance. I usually leave empty-handed and close to tears. I dread announcements of engagements or the birth of a baby, as it means more stress (I envy those who love shopping for gifts). That was, until I recently discovered I had a Welsh heritage – and so did a few of my friends. This made it slightly easier, especially for the people closest to me.

Leather Jackets for All Seasons

July 18, 2009 · Filed Under Fashion & Beauty, Shopping · Comment

Leather jackets The leather jacket has grown in stature during the 20th century. Iconic styling, and famous images have made them into a must have style accessory.

However, buying a leather jacket is something that people still tend to think about at a particular time of year. The start of the Autumn/Winter season traditionally sees a surge in sales of leather jackets and coats as they are often thought of as being only suitable for wearing during the colder months despite the fact that many modern leather jackets are actually ideally suited to wearing on a summer evening out.

The more astute shopper though will plan ahead and buy their mens leather jacket or ladies leather jacket earlier in the year as during the summer months there are some great bargains to be had on various styles of jackets and coats.

Saving Money Online

Cosmetics I’ve never been known as a ‘girly’ girl. I don’t wear makeup, I don’t do my hair, and although my nails are always short and neat, they’re not painted. One of the reasons was that I could never find anything I liked at a price that didn’t set me back a week’s worth of disposable income. I’d rather eat than look good, frankly. So when I discovered I could find top quality branded cosmetics at a decent price, guess what – I became the best looking mum in my street. I’m almost ashamed to say it, but I wouldn’t leave the house without slapping on a little powder and lippie. Nights out saw me dabbing on eye shadow, and I even began a modest collection of fragrances. I got myself a natty little bag to carry all my bits in, and a lipstick holder with a mirror so I could touch up at a red light. Last but not least, I treated myself to a manicure and then showed my lovely new nails some nail polish. This then lead me to buying a bigger handbag, as my old one was too small for my new-found beauty regime. I grew into quite the makeup professional, and this turned into a new wardrobe and haircut. My husband was very pleased!
