Gifts For All Occasions

July 29, 2009 · Filed Under Fashion & Beauty, Shopping · Comment

Gifts I hate being stuck for gift ideas. Whether it’s for someone’s birthday or anniversary, I am always at a loss when trying to think of what to buy. A wedding is especially difficult; I stand in the home wares section and wander aimlessly, dodging staff and offers of assistance. I usually leave empty-handed and close to tears. I dread announcements of engagements or the birth of a baby, as it means more stress (I envy those who love shopping for gifts). That was, until I recently discovered I had a Welsh heritage – and so did a few of my friends. This made it slightly easier, especially for the people closest to me.

The Shetland Pony – a Brief History

July 19, 2009 · Filed Under Pets · Comment

Shetland pony Shetland ponies are those gorgeous tiny horses you see in pantomimes like Cinderella. They provide rides to children on farms and in zoos, and with their shaggy faces and stocky legs, are an ideal animal for children to share their first interaction with the equine world. In fact, a Shetland pony is ideal for children as they are usually kind-natured and brave – behaviour required when dealing with youngsters. Care needs to be taken, though, that the pony is not spoiled either by the children or their parents. As with many animals, it’s the human input that shapes a pony’s behaviour, and care needs to be taken with how a pony is treated. Also, as with many animals that are thought to be ‘intelligent’, this can be construed as being ’stubborn’. And a Shetland pony is considered ‘intelligent’. Facts to bear in mind when combining a Shetland and children; they appear to have a lot in common!

Leather Jackets for All Seasons

July 18, 2009 · Filed Under Fashion & Beauty, Shopping · Comment

Leather jackets The leather jacket has grown in stature during the 20th century. Iconic styling, and famous images have made them into a must have style accessory.

However, buying a leather jacket is something that people still tend to think about at a particular time of year. The start of the Autumn/Winter season traditionally sees a surge in sales of leather jackets and coats as they are often thought of as being only suitable for wearing during the colder months despite the fact that many modern leather jackets are actually ideally suited to wearing on a summer evening out.

The more astute shopper though will plan ahead and buy their mens leather jacket or ladies leather jacket earlier in the year as during the summer months there are some great bargains to be had on various styles of jackets and coats.

Saving Money Online

Cosmetics I’ve never been known as a ‘girly’ girl. I don’t wear makeup, I don’t do my hair, and although my nails are always short and neat, they’re not painted. One of the reasons was that I could never find anything I liked at a price that didn’t set me back a week’s worth of disposable income. I’d rather eat than look good, frankly. So when I discovered I could find top quality branded cosmetics at a decent price, guess what – I became the best looking mum in my street. I’m almost ashamed to say it, but I wouldn’t leave the house without slapping on a little powder and lippie. Nights out saw me dabbing on eye shadow, and I even began a modest collection of fragrances. I got myself a natty little bag to carry all my bits in, and a lipstick holder with a mirror so I could touch up at a red light. Last but not least, I treated myself to a manicure and then showed my lovely new nails some nail polish. This then lead me to buying a bigger handbag, as my old one was too small for my new-found beauty regime. I grew into quite the makeup professional, and this turned into a new wardrobe and haircut. My husband was very pleased!

Debt Management – How Should I Do It?

July 3, 2009 · Filed Under Finance · Comment

Debt advice If you can’t keep up with your debt repayments, then a debt management plan could be the right debt solution for you. Your lenders may agree to accept lower monthly repayments, based on what you can realistically afford. They may also agree to freeze interest and/or waive charges – although they are not obliged to do so. Debt management can be carried out in different ways: on your own, or via a debt management organisation which will organise a debt management plan for you. However, there are a few things you may want to consider before you get in touch with your creditors – or ask a debt management organisation to do it for you:

  • If you change the way you repay your debts, you will be defaulting on your original repayment agreement. This will be shown on your credit rating for six years, which could affect the cost and/or availability of credit for that time.
  • Creditors are not legally obliged to accept the new repayments terms, or stick to them once they’ve agreed.
  • If you agree to repay your debts over a longer period of time, you may increase the overall repayment amount (due to interest).
  • Lenders will not agree to lower repayments unless you can’t afford to make the agreed repayments to your debts.
